ABOUT

Madison defines herself as a director, writer and teaching artist. Deeply committed to the production of New Works, Madison has directed dozens of local and world premiere productions. She received her undergraduate degree in Directing and Management from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska, and her Master of Fine Arts in Directing for Film and Theatre from the University of New Orleans. In 2014, she co-founded Death & Pretzels, a New Works focused company dedicated to exploring oddity, antiquity and ensemble-built experiences.  Her credits with them include directing and producing The Dybbuk, Gruoch, or Lady Macbeth, Anatomy of Gray, very still & hard to see, Musical Therapy, Women, Helmut's Big Day, The Basement Company, The Book of Maggie, I, Cockroach, Helvetica, Break Through and A Murder Most Novel. In 2017, D&P co-founded the Nox Arca Theatre cooperative, a black-box theatre in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Nox was eventually taken over full time by the D&P and the theatre served as their artistic home. They shared the space with regular renters and small up-and-coming new resident companies, and hosted events like world premiere productions, fundraisers, cabarets and industry mixers. Due to the events of 2020 Covid19 Pandemic, Nox was forced to shutter, and D&P entered a hibernation phase.

In Chicago, Madison was fortunate to direct and write for companies such as the Metropolis, Actor's Gymnasium, Hell in a Handbag, GoldenCon, RedTwist, The House Theatre, The Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, Beverly Theater Guild, Summerplace Theatre, and Team StarKid, among others. In New Orleans, Madison directed and taught for Le Petit, The Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, Intramural and the River Region Drama Guild, as well as UNO. During her time in New Orleans, Madison wrote, directed and produced the short film STAY, which will begin the festival circuit in the fall of 2025.

As a writer, Madison spent a large chunk of the pandemic working alongside her writing partner, acclaimed playwright Brendan Bourque-Sheil, working on their play, Dogrose Patrol, which can be found on the New Play Exchange. Dogrose Patrol received such honors as being named a Finalist in the 2023 O'Neill National Playwright Conference, Semi-Finalist in the 2023 American Blues Theatre Blue Ink Awards, and Winner in the Moondance International Film Festival Plays division.

Madison is embarking on a new adventure - moving to the Mount Washington Valley region of New Hampshire, where she'll take the reins as the new Producing Artistic Director of M&D Playhouse, proudly in its 25th season.
